- Pyelonephritis :- suppurative bacterial Infection of renal pelvis (pyelum) ,calyces & interstitium of the kidney (nephros), It is a form of nephritis and can also be called pyelitis (1).

- Hydronephrosis :- dilatation of renal pelvis ,calyces with atrophy of renal parenchyma this disease caused by lower obstruction .

N.B... Hydronephrosis lead mainly to 2ry infection why...?

as it is formed by obstruction which lead to stasis of urine which predispose to infection.

- Pyonephrosis:- chronic suppurative inflammation of renal pelvis ,calyces & interstitium + obstruction so kidney become as a bag of pus.


1- Pyonephrosis = Hydronephrosis (dilatation)+ infection (pus) as in

the following image.

2- Pyonephrosis = Pyelonephritis (pus)+ obstruction (dilatation) as in
the following image.
